Passplus is a driver training course specifically aimed at new drivers designed by the Driving and Vehicles Standards Agency (DVSA) with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry.
Unfortunately, new drivers are more likely to have a crash in their first two years of driving than at any other time in their driving career, and one in five new drivers has an accident within the first year of passing their test. Even although a new driver has passed the practical driving test, they may not have had much experience or tuition on certain types of road such as country roads or dual carriageways. Motorway driving is not part of the test, and busy city centre driving and multi lane junctions are not a feature of many test centre areas.
Pupils reaching the required standard may be entitled to a substantial discount on their motor insurance premium
from companies supporting the scheme. It takes 6 hours to
complete the course and is made up of six
practical modules:
You will not have to take a test at the end of the course but you will be continually assessed. You must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard.
Graham May School of Motoring is fully approved by the DSA to deliver the Pass Plus course, and the current price is £180. To encourage uptake, a £100 South Lanarkshire Council subsidy towards the cost of this course is available. This means the overall cost of the 6 hour course is an amazing £80!!!
“Passplus builds upon your existing skills and knowledge, and will teach
you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazards, on more complicated and busier roads. It will help you to become
more confident on the roads.”
